On Tuesday, the UN Security Council renewed the travel ban and asset freeze for individuals and entities that obstruct the implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement between the Azawad Movement and the Bamako government, until August 31, 2023.
While the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2649,
The 15 council members extended until September 30, 2023 the mandate of the sanctions monitoring team, as well as a request to encourage the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) to assist the group.
In the resolution, the Security Council noted that “the situation in Mali continues to threaten international peace and security in the region.”
