PRESS RELEASE FROM THE GOVERNOR OF THE SAHEL REGION
On September 5, 2022, an escorted supply convoy, leaving for Ouagadougou, was the target of an attack. One of the vehicles carrying civilians in the said convoy exploded on contact with an improvised explosive device. The provisional report as of September 5 at 5 p.m. reports thirty-five (35) dead and of thirty-seven (37) wounded, all civilians. The incident happened between Djibo and Bourzanga. The escort elements quickly secured the perimeter and took measures to provide assistance to the victims. The wounded were taken care of and difficult cases were evacuated to appropriate structures.
In these painful moments, the government, through me, salutes the memory of the deceased, presents its condolences to the bereaved families, wishes a speedy recovery to the injured and encourages the forces engaged in the operations to secure our territory.
