Aguelhok – 20 August 2025
In a statement issued by its military media branch, the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) announced that on the morning of Wednesday, 20 August 2025, it carried out a drone strike on a position belonging to the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) and the African Corps in the town of Aguelhok, in the Kidal region, resulting—according to the statement—in dead and wounded personnel, as well as significant material damage.
The FLA said several drones hit their targets with high precision, and affirmed that its forces will continue to target any Malian or foreign military presence on Azawad soil.
Meanwhile, FLA spokesperson Mohammed Al-Muloud Ramadan stated that the operation inflicted heavy losses on the Malian army and the African Corps. The Russian-affiliated Corps claimed to have repelled the attack, but sources within the FLA told Al-Nahda Agency that the images circulated by Malian authorities and the African Corps are old and unrelated to today’s assault in Aguelhok.
Repeated operations
This attack is part of ongoing operations launched by the FLA against Malian and Russian forces. Over recent months, they have carried out dozens of airstrikes and suicide drone attacks in regions such as Timbuktu, Lere, Gondam, Tessalit, Anoumlane, Temert, among others.
The FLA claims these operations have dealt substantial human and material losses to the Malian army, the African Corps, and former Wagner mercenaries who were previously based in Azawad.
